Cycling discipline: Road, MTB XC,Track

Time in competitive cycling: First joined a club in ’78 but no racing since 2000, doing a bit this year though before I get too old

First competitive bike: Carlton Continental

Favourite racing circuit: Most Italian RR circuits because they have some good climbs to get rid of the real sprinters so ideal for me back in the day. In the UK without a shadow of a doubt its the Lincoln Grand Prix, its a classic race with awesome atmosphere

Favourite/most inspiring cyclist: Favorite at the moment is Phillipe Gilbert because I love his aggressive style. When I was racing it was Sean Kelly for the same reason and also the fact that Sean is such a great person, really grounded and not like some of the new primadonna’s. Most inspirational  goes to someone else. Its a strange one but I’d have to say Gerrie Kneteman because I became addicted to cycling after watching him win the 1978 World Road Race Championships from start to finish on BBC’s Grandstand or World of Sport, can’t quite remember which. I’d never watched a bike race before but from that day on I wanted some of that!

Favourite/most inspiring sports personality: Favorite would be Valentino Rossi (Moto GP) and I used to love to watch Colin McRae (WRC) because of his 100% win or bin style

Most inspiring cycling performance of 2011: Russ Downing finishing the hardest Giro D’Italia in years after his big crash down a ravine. He showed true  Brit fighting spirit which is lacking a lot today

Most inspiring sports performance of 2011: The GB team at the World RR Champs followed by Cav finishing it off at the finish. Also seeing Lucy Garner pull the most awesome sprint out to win the Junior World Road Race Championships, made special by the fact that I’ve watched her rise to the top close hand over the last two years

Likes: Track days on my new ZX 10R, especially at Anglesey when the sun is out + having a beer with the boys on the night before the trackday

Dislikes: Rain on trackdays!

Favourite band/artist:  Its a big list but here’s just a few :- Talk Talk, Tears for Fears, Staind, 3 Doors Down, Screaming Tree’s, Rage Against The Machine, New Fast Automatic Daffodils, The Cure, Prefab Sprout, The Waterboys, Havana 3am, Sugar, Grant Lee Buffalo, Del Amitri, Milow, Neil Young

Most inspiring pre-race music: Without doubt Rage Against the Machine get me in the mood to smash it

Cycling goals for 2012: To help everyone in our youth team push forward with the right mindset and achieve the goals that I know that they’re capable of

Best result to date: Jessie and Joey

Best performance to date:  Record number of 3 stage wins at Settima Bergamasca + points and combine jersey. The race was won overall by Lance Armstrong

When I’m not cycling or thinking about cycling I like to: Wax my van

If the great goddess of cycling granted you just one wish per year, what would this be for 2012? Make me 16 again so I can start over now that the sport has cleaned up its act
